About

I’m Uldduz Sohrabi, a UK-based journalist and researcher specialising in autonomous weapon systems (AWS) and explosive weapons in populated areas (EWIPA). My work examines how weapons technologies, doctrine and procurement choices translate into real-world civilian harm, through the lens of international humanitarian law (IHL), protection standards, and accountability.

I work across reporting, audio, and documentary development, translating technical and legal debates into narratives that are accurate, accessible, and useful for both public audiences and decision-makers. I’m currently working on a PhD focused on autonomous weapons and international law, exploring how legal frameworks apply to emerging capabilities and accountability questions.

I founded The Civilian Agenda, an advocacy organisation focused on the civilian impacts of armed conflict. We combine public education and media with engagement in international policy discussions on weapons, civilian protection, and protection standards.

My work is informed by an anti-racist and decolonial perspective and a commitment to interrogating how power shapes both conflict and its coverage. In practice, that means being rigorous about language and framing, questioning whose perspectives are treated as authoritative, and continually refining my approach through cultural humility and self-correction. This lens shapes how I contextualise my reporting and how I aim to show up professionally and personally in the work.
